Say hello to Portimao
Once a thriving fishing town, Portimão is now the Algarve’s second largest city. Hotels in Portimão provide visitors with access to a gorgeous coastline that faces the Atlantic Ocean. The city is also located on the western banks of the Arade River, which winds its way 20 kilometres or so northeast. Portimão is well served by public transport, with the main Portimão Railway Station just a 15-minute walk from the centre of town. Gare Rodoviária Bus Station is a little further north and takes an extra 11 minutes to reach on foot. The majority of Portimão’s shops are located in and around the Alto Boavista neighbourhood, where you’ll find several brand-names stores, such as H&M and Primark. Aqua Portimão Shopping Centre is also situated in Alto Boavista. Just a half-hour walk from the heart of town is the sandy beach of Praia da Rocha.

Where to stay in Portimao?
