The most popular time to visit PortAventura is in July and August. The weather is at its hottest, averaging in the high 20s, and the atmosphere at its most vibrant. The queues for the rides are longer, although look out for days when the park is open till midnight, or even later. You can get cheaper evening tickets with shorter waiting times.Out of season, May, June, September and October are good times to visit. The weather is still warm and you avoid the school holidays, but the park is still lively with lots going on.

There are lots of great family hotels in Salou, a five-minute drive from the park. Here you can visit Levante beach, where you’ll find amenities to cater for the whole family, including bars, playgrounds and hammocks.Couples will want to find a hotel around Capellans beach in Salou, half a kilometre from the centre. The sand is golden and the waters calm, and from one end you can begin a hiking trail which reveals intimate coves and small cliffs.20 minutes away by car, hotels in Cambrils will offer something for everyone. It’s great for food lovers, with over 200 eateries to choose from, including a number of Michelin-star-rated restaurants. Quieter than neighbouring Salou, you can wander the cobbled streets, visit the old castle, and relax with a cocktail overlooking the pretty harbour.You can find reasonably priced hotels in Tarragona, 12km north of PortAventura. The town is a must-visit for history lovers, with its well preserved Roman Colosseum and range of old churches from different eras. There are also lots of good eating and drinking options in the town, including a variety of tapas bars and cafes on the plazas.
