I have been to the Corinthia Palace many times; although things have changed there was still a friendly atmosphere. The major problem was that I had booked the hotel for over christmas and new year, hoping to participate in all of the festivities which are excellent and popular and good value such as the Christmas Eve dinner, the Christmas breakfast, the christmas day buffet, new year’s eve dinner and new year’s day lunch. When i arrived at the hotel, having booked on-line in the summer, I was told that everything was ‘fully booked’. This is a problem in Malta because at the major feast times like this, it is difficult to find restaurants open or accommodating a single guest. As a result I felt let down by the hotel. It was not that these events were booked up by guests but rather by Maltese citizens. It is good that the hotel is open like this but there were several other guests who were in the same position as I was; they seemed to make more fuss about it and got accommodated for at least one of the meals. I did ask several times but when they are full there is not a lot can be done. So, needless to say I won’t be back at Christmas/New Year time again. But the hotel is enjoyable and friendly and situated in a suburban area far from the crowds so from that point of view it is peaceful. The other disappointment was that the renowned spa was being fully renovated which was not announced in advance. Again it was a timing issue.
