We have stayed several times at the Bonham, so clearly it ticks a number of boxes. Firstly, it has an on-site,(small), free car park, an unusual feature for central Edinburgh accommodation. The location, in the West End is away from the main hub, so it's a bit quieter than more central hotels and being comprised of extended townhouses, it has more character than corporate places. It is a comfortable stroll to George Street & a shorter one to the restaurants/bars around Haymarket.
Our room (superior, king-bedded) on the third floor was spacious, clean & well-appointed, with good views & bathrobes.
The new bar area on the ground floor is small, with views over the car park (not wonderful) but a number of people seemed to be enjoying afternoon tea while we were there. We preferred having a drink in the lounge area overlooking the crescent, but both areas were very quiet on Friday evening. Prices are somewhat on the high side, but in keeping with hotel bars.
We found reception and restaurant staff to be polite & friendly. Both check-in & check-out were efficient with no inaccuracies.
Breakfast was of a good quality, with items fresh & well-stocked, even towards the end of serving time. It is worth ordering something made to order from the hot options. We didn't eat dinner here, on this occasion, so cannot comment on that.
No major downsides, more suggestions for improving what was a good experience overall. Our bathroom, spacious, with nice toiletries, is probably ready for a bit of minor updating (new tiles, for example). Given that bathrobes are provided, slippers shouldn't be too difficult. Complimentary bottled water is always appreciated & is frequently common place at comparable hotels. Similarly, the tea & coffee provisions were a little on the mean side; some homemade shortbread would have been a nice touch! Finally, the entrance to the hotel via the car park is rather tired-looking & doesn't give a good first impression.
We will be more than happy to stay here again.
