Say hello to Blackpool
With its iconic tower and sandy beach, Blackpool is a popular holiday destination and on the bucket list for many. It is home to a huge number of family friendly attractions, including the Madame Tussauds waxwork museum, the SEA LIFE aquarium, and many arcades. Blackpool’s famous tower was erected in 1894 and offers panoramic views of North Wales, the Lake District and the Isle of Man – on a good day. It stands at 158 metres tall, so you’ll have to be brave if you’re to walk on the glass floor in the tower’s viewing gallery. Blackpool’s historic Opera House is also a must-see attraction. Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Bob Hope are among the famous faces to have performed on its stage and it accommodates almost 3,000 audience members.

Frequently Asked Questions
When to go to Blackpool?
It goes without saying that summer is the best time to visit Blackpool if you want to make the most of its sandy beach and Grade II listed North Pier. As lots of families choose to visit in July and August when children are on school holidays, it can get a little crowded. June and September can often be just as warm and accommodation is generally cheaper, so these months are a great time of year for a Blackpool stay.If you want to catch a glimpse of the world-famous Blackpool illuminations, make sure you’re there in September and October, when you’ll be able to admire eight kilometres of colourful lights that stretch along the Promenade. In May, visitors are treated to the Blackpool Dance Festival, thirteen days of Ballroom and Latin American dancing performed by enthusiasts from all over the world.
Where to stay in Blackpool?
Most of Blackpool’s main attractions are within walking distance of each other, particularly on the seafront, so you can visit all the sights no matter where you choose to stay. There are hundreds of hotels in Blackpool, and the majority can be found between Blackpool Tower on the North Shore and Blackpool Pleasure Beach on the South Shore. If you decide to book a hotel on the North Shore, you’ll benefit from sea views and easy access to Blackpool North train station. Basing yourself here means you can take advantage of the many different experiences on offer at the Blackpool Tower. These include a 4D cinema experience recounting Blackpool’s history; daily tea dances accompanied by a live organist; one-hour, spooky dungeon performances; and even circus shows. Here, you’ll also be a short stroll from both the Grade II listed North Pier and Central Pier, with its big wheel, fairground rides and arcades.By choosing accommodation on Blackpool’s South Shore, you’ll be less than a mile away from its famous Pleasure Beach, one of the biggest amusement parks in Europe. If you’re visiting Blackpool in the autumn while the illuminations are in full swing, consider booking accommodation in this area.If you’re hoping for a peaceful holiday away from the crowds, you could opt for a hotel further east of Blackpool’s promenade. Choose accommodation in or around Newton to be close to Blackpool Zoo and the Blackpool Model Village. From here, it’s just a 45-minute walk back to Blackpool’s Central Pier.
