Frequently Asked Questions

Mykonos enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with very hot summers and mild winters. Temperatures reach in the 30s during the summer months of July and August but thankfully there is always a cooling breeze to make it bearable. September and October remain warm and can be a great time to visit with the summer crowds gone as well.
It’s no surprise that Mykonos’ biggest draws are its beaches. They’re thought of as the northern beaches and the southern beaches. Find a hotel in Tourlos to be within driving distance of the north shores. The beaches here are more rustic: Agios Sostis is beautiful but homespun – one of the tavernas doesn’t have electricity. There are fewer people here compared to Ftelia, a beach 12 minutes away by car which attracts surfers thanks to its strong winds. The southern beaches are best reached from hotels in Ornos. This area is quiet and family friendly, but still within three kilometres of Megali Ammos which is bustling and has lots of places to eat and drink. You’ll find Psarou Beach a five-minute drive from Ornos. It’s a favoured spot for party-lovers, as well as for active travellers looking to waterski, dive and windsurf. If you’re looking for a chance to learn about Mykonos’ history, hotels in Chora are a good place to be. You’ll be near the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos, the Aegean Maritime Museum and Mykonos Folk Art Museum – they’re all less than a 20-minute walk from each other. A further 15 minutes’ walk away are the windmills of Kato Myli. These date back to the 16th century when they were used to power the island’s granaries. For a peaceful couples’ trip, find hotels in Agios Ioannis, arguably the quietest part of the island. Take a day trip to Delos, the isle where – according to Greek legend – both Apollo and Artemis were born. Agios Ioannis is also known for its excellent local restaurants.
