Frequently Asked Questions

Florence is a beautiful but surprisingly small city, and although summer has the warmest weather it also has the busiest streets. September to November still offers a lot of sunshine, and although the temperature may be cooler this is often the best time to explore the many wonders that the city has to offer.
For a central area that’s flanked by meandering alleys, choose from hotels in the Duomo. You’ll be near the Gothic Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce churches. Less than 10 minutes’ walk away, the Uffizi Gallery offers paintings from the 14th century onwards, including work by Leonardo, Botticelli and Caravaggio. It’s a further 15 minutes to reach the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s Statue of David. In search of a more secluded place to stay? Hotels in the Oltrarno place you well in the artisan part of the city. Take the walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo, a traditional square high about the city, to have stunning views of Florence. The Pitti Palace is also in this region, where you can see modern art, former royal apartments and a costume gallery.Couples should pick from hotels in Piazza della Signoria to capture some of the romance of pre-Renaissance Florence. Admire the Ponte Vecchio, a bridge potentially dating back to 966. Take a boat trip along the Arno River and admire it from all angles, before going on a tour of the nearby intricately decorated Palazzo Vecchio – the former living quarters of Florence’s most powerful family, the Medicis.Family holidays are well catered for by hotels in Florence. The old carousel in Piazza della Repubblica lets the kids have fun while adults take a break with a coffee. Young and old alike will enjoy the Boboli Gardens, where there are a collection of Roman antiquities and 16th–18th-century sculptures.
