Property Location
This all-inclusive hotel lies in Matanzas in a most beautiful setting on the beach of Varadero. The centre of Varadero is about 10 minutes away, the international airport is 30 minutes from the hotel, whilst it is a 90-minute drive to the international airport of La Habana.

By Cuban standards, the Royalton Hicacos is a five star hotel. By international standards, it would probably rate about three. Service is variable. We experienced both excellent and appalling service, but it's mostly somewhere in the middle. Rooms are quite large and reasonably well appointed. Facilities are plentiful. Our favourite spot was the sunrise pool - which is much quieter than the main pool where loud music and drunken shouting can often be an annoyance. Food in the a la carte restaurants was mostly served lukewarm or cold. Getting into those restaurants means arriving very early (about 6:00 - 6:15) because they scrapped the reservation system in favour of a first come, first served approach. Don't bother with the Diamond Club upgrade. It's a lot of money for very little - especially now that reservations for restaurants have been scrapped.

Junior Suite

These colorfully decorated and spacious Junior Suites feature a separate living room area with a sofa and coffee table.
