Frequently Asked Questions

There are two main seasons in Costa Rica – the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season runs from mid-November to April, and the country tends to be warm and full of sunshine. May to mid-November is Costa Rica’s rainy season, when the days are usually split with sunshine in the morning and rain in the afternoon. The rain is at its heaviest in September and October. Peak season for visitors tends to run from Christmas until Easter, while tourists can often get significant discounts on hotels in Costa Rica during the rainy season.
In the north-west, the province of Guanacaste has a strong cowboy culture, with haciendas, cattle-ranchers and rodeos. The region also has some of Costa Rica’s best beaches, including Samara and Nosara on the Nicoya Peninsula. On the Caribbean Coast, the Limón Province is where you’ll find Costa Rica’s Afro-Caribbean influences. The famous Parque Nacional Tortuguero is a popular place for exploring Costa Rica’s ecosystem and watching turtles lay their eggs. On the Pacific coast, Monteverde is an attractive tourist destination surrounded by cloud forests. Surfers and beach lovers will be drawn to the coastal areas of Montezuma and Sata Teresa on the southern Nicoya Peninsula, while walkers will enjoy staying in Corcovado.
