Peak season on the Amalfi Coast is during July and August, when the temperatures are at their hottest. It’s quieter either side of the summer months – either in May and June, or September and October. During this time, the hotels will be cheaper and the weather a little cooler, with fewer tourists. If you want to visit the coast at its quietest, then winter can be a good time to travel. It’s still relatively warm, and the hotels are heavily discounted, although do be aware that some hotels and restaurants will be closed during this quiet period.

Hotels in Amalfi town are well suited to couples and groups thanks to its rich history. Visit the ninth- century Duomo in the central piazza or check out the nearby mosaics and sculptures from Amalfi’s opulent past. Hike the four kilometres up into the hills of Ravello, where you’ll enjoy unrivalled views out across the deep-blue waters. While there, check out the panoramic gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo.On the unspoilt eastern side of the Amalfi Coast, hotels near Cetara are a great choice for those looking to avoid touristy areas. The fishing village has a secluded beach ideal for relaxing. You can also stroll amongst its charming white houses, or try its famous Colatura (anchovy dripping sauce).Hotels in Positano are ideal for couples. Tightly packed pastel houses ascend steeply from the waterfront to the mountain top, making the town a truly stunning place to explore. Surrounded by fragrant citrus trees, the town is a bustling tourist destination with plenty to do. Visit the Marina Grande, stroll through its tightly packed streets of the Piazza Tasso or take a rural walk through lemon and olive groves. Drive north to the ruins of Pompeii, 26 kilometres from Sorrento, to witness an incredibly preserved slice of ancient Roman life.
