Insider blogger tips to Gran Canaria

For the past 30 years Gran Canaria has been a firm favourite for holidaymakers. With its stunning beaches and warm weather all year round it is not hard to see why. Gran Canaria’s landscapes are also a favorite for filmmakers. One of my most favourite films “A Fistful of Dollars” was one of the first films to use Gran Canaria’s desert type backdrops. Like most people I was very surprised to find that an island in the Canary Islands filled in for a Mexican border town. It just goes to show the variety of Gran Canaria’s landscapes. Next time you visit make sure you check them out.

Fun Fact

Originally titled ‘The Magnificent Stranger’, Clint Eastwood was never informed about the change of film title, and subsequently missed out on the positive buzz surrounding its release!

Despite recorded highs of 28°C, thanks to ocean breezes and trade winds, Gran Canaria is always at a comfortable temperature, which explains why it is described as the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’.

Located in the South East region of Gran Canaria, near San Agustin is the replica Wild West town of Sioux City Park. The park was built in 1972, following the fame of Fistful of Dollars and has regular saloon shows and themed activities that you can watch and participate in.
