Before Sunset in Paris

We revisit Jesse and Celine in this sequel to Before Sunrise, which takes place nine years later. As they spend time together before Jesse has to catch a flight, their feelings for each other start to return, with the backdrop of Paris helping to rekindle the romance.

What takes place at the scene: There’s plenty of moments in Before Sunset which showcase the beauty of Paris, but the romantic boat trip along the River Seine where Jesse and Celine discuss relationships, sticks out as most memorable and has become the scene we all long to recreate.

People who starred: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

Insider blogger tips to Paris

The River Seine is Paris’ most romantic spot and it’s impossible not to fall in love (with the city, at least). Follow in the footsteps of Before Sunset’s Jesse and Celine and take a river cruise past the Louvre, the iconic Pont des Arts and the Notre Dame Cathedral. After spending a night together in Vienna nine years ago, the philosophical couple spontaneously meet again on the Left Bank, so why not explore this arty area? Start at indie bookshop Shakespeare and Company and stroll past La Sorbonne, finishing with the famous chocolat chaud at Café de Flore in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Fun Fact

Before Sunset only took a mere 15 days to shoot, with the longest take lasting approximately 11 minutes.

In the summer, Paris enjoys high temperatures of 25°C, perfect for relaxing along the River Seine but during the winter the city is as equally romantic, adorned with twinkling lights and Christmas markets.

The boat trip which Jesse and Celine board takes them through central Paris at Quai de la Tournelle, with the famous Notre Dame cathedral present in the background.
