Yiannis does not provide frills- inasmuch as the rooms are basic but clean, and the cups, cockery, cutlery are interestingly mismatched! Initially, the appearance is perhaps of the utilitarian- the useful rather than the pretty. What you will find however, are the friendliest most attentive family waiting to help and assist you. This was our first visit, and initially we were not bowled over by the presentation of the layout or style/provisioning of the apartments. However by the end of the first day we had realised the Yiannis is a real gem. Located conveniently to the beach which stretches for miles either up and beyond Kos town itself, or up to Thermae in the opposite direction. The beaches are often shingle (water shoes maybe a good idea) but the water is crystal clear and used by visitors and locals alike all the way up to the harbour where the ocean going yachts moor for a few nights. Not a trace of flotsam or pollution even in the harbour. Kos thoroughlydeserves its Blue Flag staus! Along the coast trees provide welcome shade from the sun, in some areas providing shelter on the beach margins. It is the sense of the pristine that marks Kos as something special and is encountered seemingly wherever you travel. For the reasonably fit, the most economical travel method is bycicle. Kos has attampted to provide cycle tracks wherever possible and the coastal areas are well supplied and mostly flat. The locals are happy to recommend the best routes for any level of fitness. Bike hire is cheap- around 20 to 25 Euro per week. Kos seems to have it all. A breeze seems to keep the temperature and comfort levels pleasant, the environment is well cared for, and the towns and villages provide for the tourist in search of sun and sea, or those seeking out culture, history or sightseeing. The nightlife is not too prominent and although the young and young at heart will find areas they feel quite at home, the visitor looking for relaxation or local interest will not feel confronted by bar/club culture. The main nationalities visiting the island seem to come from continental Europe, with other groups largely confined to the inevitable 'all inclusive' - and this means a more relaxed atmosphere and a happy mix of visitors- and this is reflected at Yiannis apartments. Light snacks can be provided at the Yiannis, to stave off hunger until meals are taken in the restaurants available locally or further afield, and the quality of cooking and care of presentation of even the most humble of foods at Yiannis was a pleasure to see. As said above, Yiannis and it's staff provide the setting for the friendliest, most relaxed holiday imaginable. If you want 5 star this is not for you, but if you are looking for a holiday where you can feel really welcomed and comfortable in clean, pleasant surroundings then look no further. And if you do go, please don't let first impressions detract. You will find that what first appeared perhaps not so attractive, will actually become part of the charm and appeal of the accomodation. If you give it a try and are looking for a friendly happy holiday experience, this really is for you. Great for singles, couples or families, this is a holiday destination to return to- as many of the guests here (of every occupation and income) will testify. It really is difficult to imagine NOT returning!
