Welcome to Flanders
One of the three federal regions of Belgium, Flanders is the Dutch-speaking, northern part. It is renowned for its rich culture and history, displayed through its architecture, artworks and festivals. One of Flanders’ five provinces, West Flanders, features the picturesque town of Bruges, while Limburg in the east is known for its relaxing green spaces. Although politically separate from Flanders, its capital is Brussels. For history enthusiasts, Flanders has a lot to offer. You can explore the beautiful medieval towns of Bruges and Ghent, and see the magnificent old cathedrals in Antwerp and Mechelen. For a moving experience visit the memorials and museums in Ypres, a town devastated during World War One. There are plenty of other attractions as well. For some of the best shopping areas head to Hasselt or Kortrijk, while there are some great cycling opportunities in Sint-Niklaas. Antwerp, one of the largest cities in Flanders, is excellent for bars and restaurants.
