Sorrento Coast

On the south coast of Italy, looking out over the Bay of Naples, Sorrento is a town regularly frequented by international holidaymakers. The Sorrento Peninsula has views out towards Naples, the Mt Vesuvius volcano, and the small island of Capri. Sorrento is known for crafts, particularly 'intarsio' wood inlaying which uses ivory, bone or mother of pearl. The whole region gets extremely hot in the summer, especially during July and August. Autumn and winter are the rainy seasons, with milder days and chilly evenings. Sorrento hosts several festivals each year, celebrating arts, music and food. These include the giant Sagra della Salsiccia e Ceppone barbecue in December and the classical Sorrento Festival between June and September.
