The NH Barbizon Palace is one of Amsterdam's most distinctive hotels, built around nineteen 17th century houses. The hotel is acclaimed for its friendly service. There are two restaurants; Restaurant Vermeer, a well known, formal restaurant with its “l’art culinaire” and the more informal Hudson’s Terrace & Restaurant. The hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of the main entertainment and shopping areas.

The location of this hotel makes it perfect for visiting Amsterdam -we walked out of the central train station and there it was across the square. It is also conveniently close to the canal transport and tram system terminius. All the staff at this hotel were exceptionally helpful and provided friendly yet efficient service-the conceirge did our online check-in with no fuss and printed out the boarding passes and was a mine of information about the many excellent museums/ trips / sights available in Amsterdam. The standard of cleanliness of the hotel could not be faulted.

The main lobby is most attractive and breakfast buffet was well laid out with generous service time especially on Sunday morning.

The only comment is that the decor in our bedroom was somewhat "dated" and could do with a refresh. Having said that it was beautifully clean with a very generous king sized bed and spotless linen.

Top Tip: Its difficult to single out any one site but we booked ( through the restaurant's web site ) to eat at Christophe's restaurant some 10 minutes walk away. We were not disappointed -it was superb and we had a memorable meal with very attentive service that was not oppressive.

The floating Chinese restaurant near the central station was also highly impressive -well worth a visit and one can have just a main course or a rewal blow out . Service again was impeccable.
